Let me introduce myself…
My name is Mary Pullen Deacon and I am a passionate freelance artist and educator. I am fasciated by all aspects of art and design and I love to continually develop my knowledge and skills in bookbinding, illustration and photography. My professional aim is to pass on my knowledge and enthusiasm to others and to truly inspire my creative tutees.
I offer workshops and one-to-one and/or small group tuition (from beginner level upwards) in:
Bookbinding & Book Arts
Experimental drawing techniques
Digital & manual photography
My career as a freelance artist educator spans the past decade and during this time my clients have included the London College of Communication, The British Library, House of Illustration, The Guardian News and Media, Kings Place, Essex Book Festival and Essex County Council. I set out, as a mature student, to pursue my dream of studying for an Art Foundation Course qualification and my studies at the London Metropolitan Univeristy led to study at the London College of Communcation (formerly the London College of Printing) where I graduated with a BA Honours degree in Book Arts & Crafts. My degree studies included option modules in bookbinding, traditional photography, printmaking, paper engineering and a cross-colege option in creative writing.
Following a relocation to the peaceful realms of East Anglia, I have now chosen to work part time in a local secondary school and part time as a private tutor of creative skills.
