English as a Foreign or Second Language
My career as a teacher of languages spans the past twenty years and during this time I have thoroughly enjoyed working in secondary schools, English language academies and more recently at the University of Essex. My journey into education began when I embarked upon a year working as an ‘assistante d’anglais’ in two secondary schools in Bourges, France during my degree studies at the University of Liverpool. I subsequently gained a BA Honours degree in French (with Preliminary Year modules in Hispanic Studies). My degree studies included option modules in Medieval French, Literature from Quebec, Twentieth Century Plays and Nineteenth Century French Novel.
I then obtained the Trinity College London Certificate in TESOL and spent a few years pursuing my dream of travelling and teaching abroad in Spain and Australia. I returned to the UK to follow a course at the University of Nottingham where I graduated with a PGCE in Modern Languages (French and Spanish).
During a decade of working as a teacher in London, I taught French, Spanish and EFL to advanced level.
Following a relocation to the peaceful realms of East Anglia, I have now chosen to work part time as a Language Consultant on an English Intervention programme in a local secondary school and, at the same time, to work part time as a private tutor of languages.
I have training for and experience in teaching learners with speacial educational needs, including hearing impairment, autism and behaviour difficulties. My approach to teaching is holistic and I take pride in my excellent communication skills and I enjoy building and maintaining an excellent professional relationship with my tutees.
